hope/wish to do sth.希望做某事
在表达“希望做某事”的时候，我们最常用到的是hope to do sth．和wish to do sth．两者在
英文中的区别在于：hope表示的是一个想要在未来某一时间实现的目标，而且不一定能实现，而wish的愿望更迫切，时间点上也更近。比较一下Our teacher wishes to see you ur-gently．我们老师正急着要见你。I hope to visit your hometown．我希望能拜访你的家乡。
hope for the best抱乐观的态度

in hopes of 征求，希望
hope很多时候还表达一种愿望，如hope for the best“抱乐观的态度”“从好的方面着想”；You’re my last hope．你是我的“救命稻草”。We are sending out samples in hopes of gaining comments．我们正在寄送样品，征求批评意见。We hope for an early answer to our letter．盼早日回信。在慰问朋友的时候，我们还经常会说I hope you’11 be better soon．我希望你能很快好起来。而如果是wish，则大多是与实际情况相反，很可能无法实现I wish I were taller than you!我真希望长得比你还高。

hope against hope抱一线希望
不管事实如何，有希望就有动力，我们可以说anchor one’s hope on或lay one’s hope in，表示“寄希望于……”，build one’s hope on“把希望寄托在……”还可以说hope against hope“抱一线希望”。或There is a my of hope．“仍有—线希望”。
dash sb.'s hopes使人希望破灭
beyond all hope没有希望
不要轻易说You are hopeless．(你是没有希望的，你真没治了)。这样的话会很伤人。dash sb．’S hopes是“使人的希望破灭”，而beyond (a11)hope说的是“没有希望”。还有forlorn hope说的是“极其微渺的希望”“孤注一掷的举动”，所以在英文中还有“敢死队”的意思。
live in hope 希望情况会好转
Where there is life, there is hope.有生命就有希望。愿大家live in hope(S)(希望情况会好转)，哪怕是暂时in vain hope(空想)，也不要lose all hope(s)(完全失望)或give up all hope／resign all hope(放弃一切希望)。毕竟我们相信：Where there is life, there is hope．有生命就有希望。
